Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish is a growing and vibrant community. Our ministries are an integral part of our parish. We are always in need of volunteers to help at our Sunday Masses, events, and support us through prayer! Fill out the interest form next to the ministry of interest to you!
Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament
Adoration takes place every week on Wednesdays from 2–10 PM in the church. We need at least three dedicated adorers for each hour, though we would prefer to have four total adorers per hour. Please sign up for this rewarding ministry if you are willing to commit to spending time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
Check out more information here.
Lector
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” —John 1:1
The role of lector is tremendously important. As a lector, you proclaim the living Word of God to your fellow parishioners. For some Sunday Mass may be the only time they hear the Scriptures that week. Lectoring requires preparation and commitment. Please fill out the interest form if this sounds like your calling.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
As an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, commonly referred to as a Eucharistic Minister, lay people can serve the Catholic Church by distributing Holy Communion during Mass. A Eucharistic Minister must be a fully initiated member of the Church (having received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation). We ask our Eucharistic Ministers to serve with reverence, commitment, and humility. We hold training in the fall and spring. Please fill out the interest form if this is the ministry for you.
Visiting the Sick and the Homebound
**Please check the COVID-19 safety guidelines for the facility you are visiting before you arrive.**
“I was sick and you visited me. ”
-Matthew 25:36
The Visiting the Sick and Homebound Ministry visits those who are homebound, at Porter hospital or at Porter Place. Some people just need one or two visits while recovering from a surgery, while others arrange weekly visitors. Some people want to receive Holy Communion every visit, and some people may just want a visitor who will pray with them. Each is dependent upon the individual’s needs. In order to minister Holy Communion on a visit you first have to attend one of the semi-annual trainings at Lourdes. Fill out the interest form above for more information.
Ushers & Greeters
**Please Note: COVID restrictions have limited certain roles of the greeters (bulletins are placed by the door vs. being handed out, and the coffee and donut ministry is on hold), but we fully intend one day, soon, to return to full hospitality mode!**
Lourdes is a growing parish, and we want to make it a warm and welcoming place! Help us to do that! Sign up to be an usher or greeter for Mass if you are friendly, love meeting people, and have a knack for making people feel welcome. Ushers welcome our parishioners at each entrance—especially those parents with full hands. They also seat people, run the offertory collection, and pass out of bulletins. Greeters also assist with directing parishioners downstairs for our coffee & doughnut ministry. Please fill out the interest form, below, if this sounds like a way you’d like to give:
Sound Ministry
We have a wonderful sound system at Lourdes and we need volunteers to run our sound board. No prior experience needed! You will help run the soundboard at Mass and events, and aid in smooth and consistent sound quality. This will ensure that the readings, homilies, music, and presenters are heard! Interested? Please fill out the form, below:
Music Ministry
“He who sings prays twice!”- St. Augustine
Are you a gifted musician looking for a unique way to contribute to your spiritual community? Consider joining our music ministry team! Music is an integral part of the liturgy here at Lourdes, and we are always seeking talented voices (particularly male) to join our team. We hold multiple music auditions a year. Does this sound like you? Please fill out an interest form, below:
Altar Servers
This is a fraternity for boys in 4th grade through high school ages who also contribute as altar servers at Mass. This requires a basic understanding of the Mass, and the common prayers included within the Mass.
We also have adult altar servers at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Events Team
Events are a big part of our parish life. If you have been to candlelight mass socials, or any of our Gatherings at the Grotto, then you have seen that they are a great opportunity for evangelization and community growth. It takes a dedicated team to have a successful event; we need you to make it happen! Interested? Contact Judy Berry.
Shrine Circle Ministry
This ministry cleans the altar linens and cares for the grotto. Please contact Carol Schleis if you are interested in joining!
